

Born in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, on July 29, 1936, Maria attended business school, where she mastered typewriting and shorthand. Her handwriting was known for its elegance and precision, a reflection of her grace and attention to detail.
While living in Juárez, she met her husband, Efisio Setzu, who was stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, with the Italian Air Force. Together, they built a beautiful family and raised two sons and a daughter.
Maria “Marta” Setzu was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and proud great grandmother. She was the heart of her home and the foundation of her family. Her faith in God was unwavering, and she dedicated her life to serving Him and sharing His love with others.
Our Mom, had a remarkable gift for making those around her smile and laugh. She was known for her sense of humor and quick wittiness, playful spirit, that warmed everyone’s heart.
She actively supported ministries and pastors around the world, and was known as a prayer warrior—always ready to pray for anyone in need. For several years, she served as President of Women’s Aglow, a Christian ministry dedicated to building up woman in faith.
Maria’s generosity, strength, and faith touched countless lives. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her compassion, her wisdom, and her steadfast belief in God’s promises.
She is survived by her children Gerardo Efisio Setzu, Gianfranco Setzu, and Gesuina Marta Setzu; her grandchildren Nicole Renee Duron, Danielle Grace Setzu, and Gesuina Arianna Dettori; and her great-grandson Joshua Alessandro. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Efisio Setzu, who passed away on December 22, 2021.
Celebration of Life Services
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a service beginning at 6:30 PM at Martin Funeral Home, 1460 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, Texas 79936.
A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM at Martin Funeral Home, with interment at Evergreen East Cemetery, 12400 Montana Ave, El Paso, TX 79938, at 11:00 AM.
Maria’s legacy of faith, love, and service will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
