Mark Mayer Greenberg

Mark was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ruth and Hank Greenberg. He was the older brother of Gordon Greenberg. Growing up in a close family, Mark developed the values of loyalty, perseverance, and responsibility that would guide him throughout his life.

Mark was a proud University of Oklahoma Sooner. He attended the University of Oklahoma for both his undergraduate education and law school, earning his law degree there. His pride in his alma mater remained with him throughout his life, and he continued to proudly follow the Sooners.

After graduating from law school, Mark served in the United States Army as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG), combining his military service with his legal career. After leaving the military service, Mark moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area with his family, beginning his career in law and establishing roots in Texas. In the early 1980s, he moved to El Paso, where he joined the United States Attorney’s Office as an Assistant United States Attorney. He spent the next 33 years serving as a federal prosecutor, a career he enjoyed and took pride in. His work as a prosecutor was an important part of his life, and he remained committed to the law and to the work he had chosen to do. Mark enjoyed teaching others about law and was also an instructor at the local community college where he used his expertise to teach others.

Outside of work, Mark enjoyed many lifelong interests. He loved riding his bicycle and had a particular appreciation for classic cars, an interest that began in his youth and remained with him throughout his life. He was an avid baseball fan and proudly followed the Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.

In his later years, Mark was fortunate to meet Joann, who brought companionship and happiness into his life. Their time together was a meaningful and special part of his later years.

Mark was the father of four daughters, Stacy, Amy, Lisa, and Jennifer. His life, experiences, and the lessons he imparted helped shape each of them into the strong and independent women they are today.

Mark will be remembered for the life he lived, the people he loved, and the lasting impact he had on those who knew him. Those who knew him will also remember his quick wit and dry sense of humor, offered in his own understated way. His memory will remain with his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to share in his life.
