

Martha Lou Broaddus passed away on October 4, 2024. Honey, as her grandchildren called her, was born October 12, 1939. She graduated from El Paso High School in 1957, where she was a cheerleader, Top Ten in her class and served as a class officer. She graduated from Texas Western College in 1960. Martha Lou was awarded Top Ten Senior and was a proud Miner Cheerleader. After graduation, she became a teacher in the English department at Irvin HS and then Tech High School. She also taught in the English Department at UTEP as well as EPCC. She served as the Student Activities Director for El Paso High (her alma mater) for close to two decades. Martha Lou was also an active member in many local organizations including P.E.O., UTEP Women’s Auxiliary, and the UTEP Heritage House. She was an active member of St. Luke’s Church. Martha Lou was proceeded in death by her husband John Morgan Broaddus Jr., the love of her life. She is survived by her four children and spouses—Morgan Broaddus III (Stacy), Russell Broaddus (Nancy), Randy Broaddus (Marisa) and Marla Broaddus (David) and eight grandchildren: Shelby, Melissa, John, Andy, Emily, Betsy, Adrian and Jessica who all adored her. Martha Lou will be remembered as a person of joy, compassion and kindness. She was a role model, teacher and wonderful mother and grandmother. She had an incredible smile and sense of humor. She was a lover of all animals, especially her long-time furry companion, Hailey. Her love will live on forever and she will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the wonderful people of Bartlett Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living, and her caregivers- Sylvia, Faith, Karen and Nancye. Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 9:15 AM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (7050 McNutt Rd, Anthony, NM 88021). The burial will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery (5200 Fred Wilson Ave, El Paso, TX 79906) at 11 AM. Those wishing to honor her life can make donations in her name to St. Lukes Episcopal Church, the Animal Rescue League of El Paso, or The Morgan and Martha Lou Broaddus Biological Sciences Student Excellence Endowment at the University of Texas at El Paso.
