Martha Campos, 86, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Martha was born in Parral, Chihuahua to Filemon Dominguez and Librada Arzavala. She was the second born of 8 children and the only girl in the family.
They moved to Cd. Juarez where she and her family suffered many hardships, one being the loss of her youngest brother while she was a child herself, then the subsequent passing of their father. It left her no choice but to grow up and take on her mother’s role of raising her younger siblings while her mother worked to provide for the family.
She met her future husband, Ramon Campos, while he was serving in the US Air Force. After they married and settled in El Paso, TX, she unselfishly continued to care for her younger siblings. Ramon and Marther provided for her entire family, often putting her brothers needs and education before her own. She and Ramon were married for 62 years and had six children, while still supporting her mother and siblings financially.
All these hardships helped build her character; she was strong-willed, ambitious, unyielding and determined to improve herself and her family without having to rely on others.
After raising her six children, she worked hard to proudly become a US Citizen and entered the workforce. She learned to drive and worked for many years to help her husband further support the family. Martha loved the freedom and independence of making her own money. And yet she was not done with child-rearing, so she left her job to help raise her grandchildren.
Martha had spent so much of her life raising children: her brothers, her own children, and grandchildren. She finally decided it was time for herself, and well deserved it was. She thoroughly enjoyed spending much of her time at the various bingo parlors and casinos. Martha had a passion for it, and when she was there it filled her with joy. She relished this time up until her passing. She lived and enjoyed her life to the fullest and did it her way!
She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband and son, Albert Campos. She is survived by her children; Cesar (Crucita), Sergio, Ruben (Susan), Carlos Campos (Karina) and her daughter Martha Lanahan. She was a proud grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 5-great grandchildren. She died peacefully with her grandkids by her side.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 9am – 1pm with the Rosary beginning at 11am at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 N. Carolina Dr followed by the Funeral Mass at Cristo Ray Catholic Church, 8011 Williamette at 1:30 pm.
