Martin Locy Yee, 90, was born on August 20, 1933 in Canton, China. Surrounded by his loving family, Martin passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Martin was very proud to be class president of the esteemed Pui-Ching Middle School in China. Martin moved to Chihuahua, Mexico at the age of 21 to work with his father in the grocery business. Martin married the love of his life, Emma, in 1960 where they started a family with a dream to move to the United States. Their venturous spirit drove them to open Super Olímpico grocery store in Juarez and later Alexander’s Grocery and Custom Cleaners in El Paso, where they achieved much success and many life goals. They shared 57 wonderful years together, raising five children.
Martin was hard working, dedicated, and driven. He was known for his sharp, clever, and innovative mind which allowed him to thrive as a businessman, master gardener, theologian, and certified interpreter. Martin was active in the church and toured the world singing tenor with Pro-Musica. Martin is survived by his children Emma (Sergio), Martha, Lully (Rob), Martin Jr; ten grandchildren, Alex (Suzy), Michael, Gio (Rey), Sergi, Liliana (Daniel), Gabi, Gian, Mei-Mei, Ethan, Braylan, four great-grandchildren, Cristian, Benji, Emme, Analia; two siblings, Patricia Gee and Kenneth Yu, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, and his daughter, Suzie (Andre).
Tito as affectionately called, will be remembered for his faith, his love for his family, his musical talent, and his grit and determination creating amazing life stories that he so loved to tell. Martin’s legacy of love and togetherness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A funeral service for Martin will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 4:00 PM at El Paso Chinese Baptist Church, 2030 Grant Ave, El Paso, Texas 79930.
