Mary Louise Gorman Haskins passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025 at the age of 93, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on June 27, 1931 to John and Iris Gorman. She spent her childhood and college years in Oklahoma. She met her husband Don Haskins in 1950 while they were students at Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State). Shortly after their marriage in 1952, they moved from Stillwater, Oklahoma to Artesia, NM, then to Benjamin, Hedley, and Dumas, Texas before finally settling in El Paso, Texas in 1961 when Don accepted the job as Head Basketball Coach at Texas Western College (UTEP).
Our mother was incredibly kind, selfless, sweet and loving to her family, friends, and everyone she met. We were so lucky to have her as our mother. Her family was her pride and joy.
She was a member of Trinity First United Methodist Church where she worked for many years before joining Sun Travel as a travel agent. As a travel agent she planned amazing trips for not only her clients, but for many friends and family members who often accompanied her on those wonderful adventures.
Mary loved El Paso and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. She was a proud UTEP supporter of mens and womens basketball. Additionally, she was a long time member of P.E.O. Chapter AO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Haskins, and her sons Mark Haskins and David Haskins. She is survived by hers sons, Brent Haskins and Steve Haskins (Carmen), grandsons, John Paul Haskins (Jessica), Cameron Haskins and Dominick Haskins, her great grandson John McCord Haskins, and sister Sue Coyer.
