Mary Yancy was born in Yazoo County, Mississippi and was the youngest of eight children born to George and Lucy Delaware Chambers. Her father was previously married to Florence Hogue Chambers who had died and they were also blessed with eight children in that union. During her adolescent years the family relocated from Anding, MS to Jackson, Mississippi where Mary later graduated from Holy Ghost Catholic School in 1955.
After high school graduation, Mary soon relocated to El Paso, Texas to live with her brother, Andrew Chambers, Sr. who was stationed at Fort Bliss. She continued her education at UTEP where she later met the love of her life, Clarence Yancy, who was also a native of Yazoo City, MS. Clarence and Mary were wedded in 1957 and they were later blessed with a son and daughter, Michael Wayne and Lydia Clarice. They traveled the world as a dedicated military family and later chose El Paso to be their residency of love.
Mary was not only a loving wife and mother, but a Chambers Family matron and servant to all of her siblings and family members that preceded her in death. Her grace, caring spirit and Christian fervor towards family and friends was the footprint of her life as she faithfully served God as a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. She was also a dedicated member of the Fort Bliss Military Widows organization in which she cherished the many friendships and the camaraderie that it fostered.
During her illness she was given loving support by her son, Michael, nephew Andrew Chambers, Jr. and Great-Niece Sharita Smith in addition to the many friends and family members that will miss her for being the great caregiver and nurturer that she was in her blessed life.
To God be the Glory, she leaves to cherish her memories, her son Michael Yancy, a host of nephews, nieces, a generation of family members and special friends Bertha Rogers, Helen James, and Yvonne Parks.
