Maynard was a special friend that I played football against in high school.  Later I made an enduring friendship with a fellow opponent that has lasted over seventy years.  I always made it a point to take anyone visiting El Paso to H & H to meet "Mr. El Paso."  He always made them welcome.  Most of them learned how he earned his nickname--friendly, full of El Paso History, and an avid supporter of UTEP.  I will long remember and miss Maynard Haddad.  My deepest condolences to his family.

Maynard, You were a great friend and a hell of a guy. I have so many memories of times I spent with you at H&H that I can write a book of 1,000 chapters.  You’re going to be missed like you could never believe. Your huge heart, bad cigars, and beautiful family made you the great guy and friend that I and all of El Paso ever had. God Bless You and if I’m lucky enough I’ll see you in heaven.  

Nita and family.  I was so sorry to hear of Maynard's passing.  I have many wonderful memories of Maynard. Visiting the car wash with my dad for a wash, a good meal and better stories...my dad and Maynard laughing and telling stories of the lake. And Maynard being Santa at the boat club parties.  And when he and Bunny would  come to Acitunas to promote Lone Star beer. He would always take the time to visit with me, check on the family, and send his well wishes. He was always such a good, kind man
I know  from experience there is nothing I can say to ease your heartache, but I just want you to know that he is remembered fondly, as are y'all by our family. 
I like to imagine that they are all at the big boat club party , just waiting on the rest of us.

Dear Anita and the Haddad family,

I was extremely distressed last night as I read the note from Hector Guiterrez informing me of the passing my wonderful friend, Maynard Haddad.

To me, Maynard was "Mr. El Paso." From the first day I was introduced to him, upon moving to El Paso, he became my friend. He welcomed me to El Paso with open arms, invited me to many exciting UTEP athletic games, making me a lifetime fan of the University.  He loved and promoted the city and its citizens.  He was a proud "El Pasoan."

Maynard loved his family deeply and talked to me about them whenever we were together. His tailgate parties before UTEP football games were all about family. and were legend.  It was always great to see his beloved wife Anita and his brother Bunny at those games. His beloved son Joey, who preceded him in death, made the best hamburgers a man could ever want at those tailgates. 

Maynard was a man of great faith who was a long-time member and supporter of St Cement Church and School. To many Maynard may have seemed to be a bit gruff but you always knew that in his heart he really did love you as God commanded all of us to do.  Maynard had a lot of love to give, and he gave it generously.

I am distressed at losing my wonderful friend Maynard, but I know that he is now joining his sister, brother and son Joey in heaven; a place he so rightly deserves and has earned.

Maynard, thanks for being my friend and know that I love you.
