Mildred Kathryn “Kat” Rose Woodard was born in Georgetown, Texas to King Rose, Jr. and Wilma Von Steiner Rose, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded by her husband Austin “A. W.” Woodard, and her firstborn daughter Wilma Kathryn Taylor Franklin, from her first marriage.
Her formative years were spent in Georgetown where she graduated from George Washington Carver High School, leaving briefly to attend Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, Texas. In 1954, she and her family moved to El Paso where she met and married the love of her life, A. W. Woodard. The family united with Second Baptist Church where she sang in the Church Choir, was a Deaconess, and eventually served as the Church Secretary and Office Manager. She was devoted to the Second Baptist Church Family and pastor, Rev. Amelia Elmore, and they to her. She worked for several years at Parkland Middle school as the Attendance Clerk, where she made several life-long friends.
Mildred is survived by her half-sister, Beatrice Rose Miller who resides in Georgetown, Texas; two children, Austin Woodie Woodard (Shawn) who resides in Los Vegas, Nevada; Julia Paulette Woodard who resides in Fontana, California; Rev. Lynda L. Mayberry (Eddie), her devoted sister-cousin who resides in Dallas, Texas; and a host of extended family and friends.
