

Moises Salazar, 75, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015. He was born in El Paso, Texas on May 8, 1939 to Lino Salazar and Vicenta Avvocato. Mr. Salazar was a devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he served as a lector for over 20 years. He proudly served his country as a medic in the U. S. Army from 1962 to 1964. He was a former 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Del Norte Council #2592 and a former 4th Degree member of the Cristo Rey Assembly where he served as Faithful Navigator. He was also a former member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem where he attained the rank of Knight of the Grand Cross. A 2nd generation funeral director for nearly 50 years, with a passion for his profession and an unwavering commitment to service, enabled him to found the successful Hillcrest and Crestview Funeral Homes. Hillcrest-Carolina became the very first funeral home to be located on the east side of El Paso. His dedication, hard work, and success were recognized in 1999 when he was named the Small Business Person of the Year. During his tenure as owner, Hillcrest and Crestview Funeral Homes were members of the prestigious International Order of the Golden Rule and Selected Independent Funeral Homes. In 2010 Mr. Salazar reached another milestone, establishing the first and only crematory located within a funeral home facility. Although there is much pain in parting, loved ones will hold dearly the countless memories made throughout the years until they are reunited with him once again. Special acknowledgement goes out to Raul Portillo, M.D. and his entire team, Jaime Villalva, R.N., as well as Panagiotis Valilis, M.D. for guiding Mr. Salazar on a 13 year journey while providing the utmost care and compassion in treating him for multiple myeloma during that period of time. Mr. Salazar was preceded in death by his brother, Ramon Salazar and sister, Irma T. Pantoja. He is survived by wife Lourdes Salazar; his children, Alma S. Lavender, Martha S. Davila, Victor R. Salazar, Erica M. Salazar and Erick Saldes and Martha A. Salazar; grandchildren, Michelle M. and Michael Gonzales, Jennifer and Moses Davila, and Moises A. Salazar; sisters, Lina Ruedas, Cecilia Artalejo, Velia M. Parga, Patricia Burgos and Carmelita Gonzalez; brother, Victor Salazar.Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2015 with a Vigil Service at 6 p.m. at Crestview Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow with entombment at Mount Carmel Estate Mausoleum. Serving as Pallbearers will be Victor R. Salazar, Patrick Attel, Roberto Guerra, Erick Saldes, David Escobar, David Ferrell, D.D.S., Jesse Torres, and Ramon Conde.
