I took My daughter to the War Eagles Air Museum when she was younger. They have a classic car collection which featured a Rolls Royce, which I recognized because it had been donated by my mothers' former employer. My mother brought this car home (with permission from the owner) one weekend. Photos were taken and we had fun driving the car. As we left the museum, I told the story to my daughter and an attendant that was there at the time. They both looked at me like " yeah right". When we got home, I rummaged through some family photos and guess what I found?

I just found out today that that sweet little lady ,Mertis, who greeted me with such enthusiasm and genuine curiosity, has passed away!! I missed her so much after she retired, that every time I went to Sams, I asked about her.  I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. Not too many people out there who radiate love with such elegance, I will miss her smile, her beautiful red lipstick and the joy that she brought to us all.. REST IN PEACE..🙏

My deepest condolences to the family. I worked with Myrtis for 11 years and each time I saw her at Sam’s it was a happy and brand new feeling. Her laughter was contagious and she never forget my name. She was the a true door greater, I know she was exactly what Mr. Sam Walton had in mind when Myrtis was hired at Sam’s. Thank you for sharing your mom with so many of us. She was awesome 💔🌹🕊

We are tremendously saddened by our friends passing.   But our grief isn't overwhelming because we can say with confidence her name has been written down in the book of life.   She loved the dwelling of Jehovah's house and there she was always found and always ready to praise His Name Psalms 26:8,12.  Despite frailty she was also always engaged in her ministry and ready to help others come to know our Father.  She was an excellent example and tremendous encouragement to the Gill family and all who met her.  We loved Myrtis and look forward to hearing again her good sense of humor and cheerful laugh in the near future.  "Just see yourself, and see me too; Just see us all in a world that is new.  Think how you'll feel, how it will be, To live in peace, to be truly free. "

My love to Angie, Jeanine and Derek. I have wonderful memories of your mom. Myrtis was a special lady. Had a deep love for Jehovah,  her children and all her brothers and sisters. I love how she took me in and treated me as family. Always made me laugh.  She is someone I can learn from. It will be a joy to hear her laughter when Jehovah calls her name to "wake up my daughter ".

We so miss your beautiful smile and your heartfelt greetings at Sam's.  You were a beautiful woman with a beautiful heart.  Thank you for all your goodness.


Nothing was more comforting than hearing Grandma call you “Baby.”

I can hear her voice, “Thank You Baby..”

I loved that she was extremely stylish-I think of her wearing her signature cat-eye glasses that she wore so well! 

She was also a humble, kind person. I didn’t have to live in the same place to feel her comfort and love, it came through so much when we would talk over the phone…She also liked to text-she was very tech savvy. :)

I could always tell my mom was talking to grandma on the phone because I could hear the laughter alll throughout the house, it was wonderful. :)

Just knowing she is in a peaceful sleep, gives me peace..She will wake up to a much better world than the one she knew-it will take an eternity to hear all of her beautiful stories, and take just as long to make new ones!

I always knew who my mom was speaking to over the phone by the smile across her face. Just hearing her voice, “Hey Baby!” whenever I spoke to her, instantaneously made the day so much better. I could always count on my grandma for a reassuring word, sound advice, and a good laugh. Some of my favorite childhood memories included road trips to Texas, conventions in Tucson, and watching her enjoy a good meal. I’m so thankful that I have many happy memories as a little girl but even as an adult. Even though we were states apart, talking to my grandma over the phone for an hour or more was always so special and when she came to visit she captured the hearts of every one of my friends who met her. I’m so grateful that not only was she my grandma, but was a part of my spiritual family too. I can’t wait to see her again soon. 

We have known "Merdesie", as she called her self for so many happy years, and Myra spent a lot of happy times out in Field Service with Myrtis - They were called "M & M".
One of her favorite sayings was "Jes Lovley!"
Our favorite memory of Myrtis was taking" Miss Myrtis" to  the Convention in Tucson - it was a "Hoot"!
Her kids and ours grew up together  - we all spent a lot if happy times together.  She will be sorely missed.
But she is in Jehovah's memory - the safest place that she can be!


We will miss her laugh and smile! It was so encouraging to see her in service and hear her comments at each meeting.  See you soon my dear sister. 

Will always remember her smile and laughter you always knew that she was near , when we walked into “Sam’s” she always had a smile and some tidbit to share, she will be missed her bubbly personality was contagious.
She was always out in service and the meetings that was always encouraging to see.

I can still hear her laughter as she called me Fizzy. She will be missed, but not forgotten. For decades I had tried to get her chicken wing recipe , but she kept it close to her vest so to speak. I told her it would be better if she prepared some chicken lips as well. I convinced her with a straight face that they were indeed real & delicious. She told me she went to the butcher to get some & after looking at her strangely and asking her where she ever heard of such a thing, he told her there were no such things. Boy did she let me have it. She would laugh every time I mentioned chicken lips.
