1951 to 2026
Norma Irene Azcarate, a resilient, charismatic, and charming woman, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, caregiver, and friend, was called by our Heavenly Father on October 17, 2026. She was 75 years old. She dedicated her life as a devoted mother of three sons, two daughters, and their spouses: Carlos “Charlie” and wife Carol Padilla, Norma “Sprout” Padilla, Cecilia “Ceci” and husband, Karl Jeremy Brill, Jaime “Jimmy” Azcarate, Jr., and Sebastian Joel “Joey” Azcarate; four grandchildren, Kassandra “Kassie,” Isaiah, Karl Diego, and Cecilia Louise “Ceci Lou”; and one great-grandchild, Kal.
Norma was born in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, on January 5, 1951. Norma lived in Juarez with her father, Jose Merced Barron, and mother, Natividad Barron Lopez, and 7 siblings: Dora, Thelma, Celia, Armando, Arturo, Ana, and Ritchie. As teenagers, the siblings worked at the mother’s restaurant, Sanitas Cafe, until it closed in the early 70s, when her mother passed away.
Norma lived in Juarez until age 18. She then moved to El Paso, Texas, where she spent the remainder of her years. In her younger years and as a single-mother of three children at the time, she tirelessly sacrificed to provide for her family as a factory worker in El Paso.
She met the love of her life, Jaime Luis Azcarate, in the late 1970s. They were married for 17 years and raised two sons.
An incredibly resilient woman, Norma always found the strength to keep going despite the hardships she faced. She approached adversity on her own terms, never allowing life’s challenges to define or defeat her.
She touched the lives of many with her radiant smile, cheerful laugh, witty comments, silly jokes, charming personality, relentless tenacity, and extraordinary wisdom. Norma lived a life of caring for others, both personally and professionally. She loved her pets, Gizmo, Bruno, and Chato, loved gardening, arts and crafts, spending time with her family, and attending mass at Cielo Vista Church.
She is now with her beloved “Prieto” Jaime, and her cherished daughter, Norma, in Heaven. May she rest in peace.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cielo Vista Church, 3585 Lee Trevino Dr, El Paso, TX 79936. In celebration of her memory and her passing to Heaven, we share the following words from Revelation 21:4-5:
“‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”’
