Olga Ortega Valenzuela, age 76 passed away on May 29, 2018. She was born to the late Jose and Florentina T. Ortega on February 19, 1942. She is preceded in death by her sister Maria De Jesus (Tita) Ortega and her beloved Uncle Johnny (Juan Torres).
Olga attended Alta Vista Elementary School and graduated from Austin High School in El Paso Texas. She was a proud volunteer in the Foster Grandparent Program at Jane Hambric Elementary in the classrooms of Amy Rivera and Charlene Rivera. She was known as “Grandma” to many. Prior to that, she worked a number of years in Human Resources for large companies and charities throughout El Paso.
Family and friends were an important part of Olga’s life, as were her many special pets, especially her cat Lucky and let’s not forget her love for the Dallas Cowboys. She grew up in the 50’s on Tularosa Street with her grandmother, Maria Gomez, aunts, uncles and Be-bopping with her cousins; Emma, Joe C., Richard, Joe T. and her life-long friends Lily C. Valdez and Teresa Heron. Later in life, two-stepping to George Strait with her honorary bro Sam Solis. She shared many happy moments and adventures with her dear friends, Mary Jane, Mary Alice, Hilda, Yoli, Eloisa, Terri, and Jan. She also enjoyed her time growing in faith with Mindy, Irene and Esther.
Olga is survived by her daughters Yvette Valenzuela and Christine Orozco. Her treasured son-in-laws Rogelio (Roy) Orozco and Paul Tims (deceased). Her beloved grandchildren Celeste (Yaya) Orozco and Roger (Bear) Orozco her grandogs Roscoe, Rex and Coco and father of her children Ramon Valenzuela.
A special thanks to her wonderful and caring neighbors; Trisha, Randy, Michaela, David, Sally, K.C. , Iris, and Tristian. Also, Maria (Chela) Balderrama who was Olga’s lifelong friend and caretaker-first for Yvette and Christy and later in life for Olga. The family would also like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care Olga received in her final days from Hospice of El Paso.
Memorial services will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, with prayer vigil at 2:00 pm, on Saturday June 2, 2018 at Crestview Funeral Home located on 1462 North Zaragoza Rd.
To honor Olga, the family is asking to please wear purple or your favorite Dallas Cowboy attire.
