To all who knew him, Oscar Daniel Camarillo was a gregarious, fun-loving and quick-witted young man who will be sorely missed. He prematurely passed from this earth on March 2, 2024, at the age of 41, awaiting a liver transplant. He was surrounded by his loving relatives in El Paso, where he was born in 1982.
An avid film buff with a dry sense of humor and a penchant for comedic one-liners, Oscar always filled the room with laughs and love. Oscar graduated from J.M. Hanks High School, where he helped lead the emerging broadcast journalism team and worked with many talented students, to include a future El Paso news anchor. He lived in Austin, Texas for several years, working as an account representative for a pharmaceutical company, while making many friends and fond memories.
Oscar loved discovering new music – often telling friends this was key to never getting stuck in the past – and he enjoyed gaming. But sharing stories on the big screen was his true love language. Armed with an encyclopedic memory, Oscar was quick to use the perfect movie line in any situation and loved experiencing the latest blockbusters with his nieces and nephews. But he will be best remembered for the close relationships he shared with family and friends; always willing to be a sounding board and to provide sage advice.
Oscar is survived by his loving mother, Mary Lou Camarillo; his two siblings, Cindy Camarillo Covey (Paul Covey), and Gabe Camarillo (Margaret Boatner); and nieces and nephews, Tess Covey, Ethan Camarillo, Maya Covey, Natalie Camarillo and a second nephew coming in June 2024; along with aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his father Victor Camarillo, in whose company he is now reunited.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a vigil service at 11:00 AM at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas 79936. A memorial mass will follow at 2:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Rd., El Paso, Texas 79924.
