Pamela Margaret (Dahl) Shubert was born in the Azores on January 4, 1956, the second of four children. This was when the first of Pam’s identities began forming – that of a loving and helpful daughter. Over the next few years, sisters Barbara and Laura were born, further establishing the second of Pam’s identities as a loyal, fiercely protective sister. Throughout her life, her relationships with her siblings were important and permanent – no matter how far the distance between them, that bond has been unshakeable, enduring, and secured by a deep love.
On September 21, 1985, Matthew was born, bringing Pam the third of her identities – mother to her much-loved son. She was proud of Matthew and the man he has become.
Alan Shubert came into Pam’s life in 1989, and so began a bigger-than-life love story – two people with outsized personalities, an equally large taste for adventure and fun, and an unwavering devotion to one another. Alan provided the fourth of Pam’s identities – wife and partner in crime to the love of her life, the man who made her happy every single day of her life.
Pam and Alan married in 1991 and together they made homes in different towns and different houses, going where Alan’s career took them. Their last stop -- El Paso, Texas -- became their true home. It is where they’ve created a beautiful and comfortable home together, filled with Pam’s vision and Alan’s work. It is where many, many people have come to know and love them both as the kind of friends you want to keep forever.
Pam Shubert died in El Paso on September 7, 2018, after a short illness. She was generous of spirit and simply had the biggest heart. She loved without limit or fear and she would do anything for anyone. In her career in the title industry, she loved helping people close on their new homes and handing them the keys. Pam fed everyone in her life in so many ways, figuratively and literally. Always the first to step up when someone was in need or hurting, she was the best daughter, sister, mother, wife, colleague and friend any of us could ever hope to have. None of us will ever have another Pam in our lives because there isn’t another one out there and never will be. She will be missed every day.
Pam is survived by her husband Alan Shubert; son Matthew Lavoi; mother Margaret Alexander; sister Barbara Dahl; sister Laura Whiteside (Charlie); stepbrother Scott Alexander (Liz); stepsister Karen Schmitt (Tom); and stepsister Lynn Dorsey (Jim). Her brother Rick Dahl preceded her in death.
Services will be held Friday, September 14, 2018, at 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5054 Doniphan Drive, El Paso, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rescue Mission of El Paso (www.rmelp.org).
