Pedro M Martinez, passed away on December 20,2022, at the age of 89. He was born on January 26, 1933, in Chihuahua, Mexico. It was here that he met and married the love of his life, Socorro, (Suky) Martinez.
Pedro, his wife and the first five of their children moved to Ciudad Juarez. He commuted daily to El Paso where he worked for Price's Diaries on North Loop Drive. In 1963 the family moved to El Paso and resided at one of the homes provided by the owners of the dairy. Three additional children were born in El Paso. In 1975, Pedro transferred to Price's Creameries upon learning the dairy would soon be closing. He worked at the creamery until the day he retired.
Pedro was a very loving, humble generous and funny man whose own father died when he was a few month old. His mother died when he was approximately 8 years old. He ended up an orphan living on the streets in various cities in Mexico. Although orphaned and alone, he enrolled in night school and completed the fourth grade in Mexico. In El Paso he enrolled in the night school and learned how to speak, read, and write English.
Pedro devoted himself to his wife and family. He worked hard to ensure his family always had what they needed. Although no having much, both our parents shared what little they had with others and welcomed nieces and nephews into their home for extended stays. Both our parents taught us love, kindness, to be generous, to laugh and taught us the benefits of hard work. He was the life of the party wherever he went all were sure to have a good time. A great dancer, aunts and cousins took turns dancing with him at family gatherings. He was witty, had a wonderful singing voice and was often asked to sing at family parties. Our father was the best and loved by all who met him.
He is preceded in death by his wife Socorro and one grandson. He leaves behind his children Rosa Irene (Fred), Rodrigo, Alex (Bea), Lydia (Louie), Pedro Uriel, Oscar (Cecilia), Raul (Laura), Carlos (Connie). He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren.
We extend our deepest thanks to Armonia Hospice, especially Christina, Ana, Jose, Marlene, and the others who took care of our father with such love and care. A special thanks to all the caregivers who took care of him throughout the years.
