Porfiria “Pila” Vazquez Flores was called home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2021 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her husband, Salvador Flores Sr, son, Hector Flores, parents, Valentin and Otilia Vazquez, and brother Conrado Villa. She is survived by her children Salvador Flores Jr, Arthur Flores and his wife Esther Ballesteros Flores, Norma Alicia Flores, David Flores; grandchildren Michael David Flores, Annette Montes, Julianne Flores, Kasey Francisca Flores and Hector Andres Flores; daughter in law Esther Gonzales Flores. She also is survived by brothers Leoncio, Felipe, Ramon, Ambrosio and Francisco Vazquez; sisters Esperanza Garcia Rios, Maria Rodriguez Vazquez, Eva Peraza Vazquez, Socorro Mendoza Vazquez and Lourdes Estrada Vazquez.
Pila was born in San Pedro Guanacevi, Durango, Mexico and traveled to El Paso Texas where she met and married her husband. She attained Naturalized US Citizen Status and spent the rest of her remarkable life in El Paso. She was a loving mother and in addition to raising her five children she served as a mother figure for nieces Monica Gallegos Vazquez and Lucy Vazquez Garcia. She remained close to her brothers and sisters frequently traveling to Mexico to spend time with them. Later in life she was employed for close to 30 years by the El Paso Independent School District working at Vilas, Morehead, Coronado and Franklin schools. Pila was a constant presence on the athletic fields in El Paso and surrounding area as her family’s #1 cheerleader. She rarely missed a game and served as a mentor and spiritual counselor for many throughout her lifetime. Pila was a deeply religious person heavily involved with her church. Her daily ritual consisted of praying for many people needing spiritual guidance and healing. She was a positive influence for so many people and her presence will be dearly missed by all left behind.
A public visitation will be held at the Martin Funeral Home, 128 N Resler Dr on Thursday July 29 from 5-8 PM with a service at 7 PM. A funeral service will be held Friday July 30 at 9 AM followed by a procession to Ft Bliss National Cemetery. WE ASK THAT THOSE ATTENDING THE SERVICES PLEASE WEAR A MASK AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION. A few masks will be available for those that need one.
