

The family is sad to share the passing of Rafael Flores Sr. (87); a brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Rafael passed on November 2, 2024 in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Flores is preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Felicitas Flores, brother Juan Flores, and wife Carmen Salas Flores. He is survived by children: Rafael Flores Jr., Elizabeth F. DeMoultrie (Benny Pol), and Fernando Flores (Yolanda Flores). Grandchildren: Marie Rivera (Christian Rivera), Angelica Flores, Rafael Flores III, and Mireya Flores. Great-Grandchildren: Xiomara and Elias Rivera. Sisters: Francisca Henderson, Modesta Silvas, Teresa Williamson, and Carmen Flores. Brothers: Alfredo Flores and Joe Flores.
Rafael was raised in Fabens and San Elizario and spent his life in El Paso, Texas. He was a graduate of Ysleta High School then served in the Armed Forces of the United States. He then worked for the Lower Valley Bus Line and the City of El Paso as a bus driver and later as a heavy equipment mechanic until his retirement. He met his wife, Carmen, while working for the bus line. They were married in 1961 until her passing in 2008.
Most notably, he was a master of many trades and an amazing craftsman. He enjoyed making furniture and art for his family and friends. He also volunteered with the Mana Asociacion Catolica and local food bank. Rafael was a creative, compassionate, and kind man. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 1060 North Carolina Drive, El Paso, TX 79915. Vigil Service will occur Wednesday at 6:00 PM at Hillcrest Chapel. Funeral mass will occur Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Stephen Deacon & Martyr Church, 1700 George Dieter Dr, El Paso, TX 79936. Members of the family will serve as pallbearers. A graveside service will occur Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Mt Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, TX 79907.
