Ramiro "Rami" Escandon Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, at his home in El Paso, Texas, with his beloved wife by his side. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, Rami lived a life marked by purpose and dedication.
Born on January 20, 1940, and raised in El Paso, Texas, Rami graduated from El Paso High School in 1959. An outstanding athlete, he earned a football scholarship to the University of Denver, where he was a quarterback. After one year, he transferred to the University of Tulsa to continue his collegiate football career. These formative years provided invaluable experiences that helped shape his lifelong passion for coaching, mentoring, and education.
Rami went on to serve as a teacher, coach and administrator at his alma mater, El Paso High School, during two separate tenures, dedicating a total of 26 years to education. He inspired generations of students and colleagues through his integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to helping others succeed. He retired from El Paso High School in 2002, but his active spirit never slowed. In retirement, he enjoyed welcoming golfers at Dos Lagos Golf Course. Golf was one of his greatest passions and he always had a memorable story or two to tell from his time on the course.
A faithful member of the Catholic Church, Rami's life was deeply rooted in prayer, faith, and trust in God. His devotion to family was evident in all that he did.
Rami is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Patricia; his daughter, Rebecca Harrington (Jason Harrington), granddaughters Addison and Sienna; stepson Rod Ramos (Denise Ramos) and their sons Diego, Pablo, and Marco; stepson Rick Ramos (Jenny Ramos) and their sons Benjamin, Nicolas, and Noah, Crawford Patton and Bennett Patton; stepdaughter Rosanna Carvajal (Mark Carvajal) and their daughters Isabella, Victoria, and Gianna; his sister, Socorro Escandon; and beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 930 E. Redd Road, El Paso, Texas. A reception will immediately follow at Martin Funeral Home, 128 North Resler Drive. A private committal ceremony at Memory Gardens of the Valley, 4900 McNutt Road, Santa Teresa, New Mexico, will follow the reception.
Rami's dedication and love for family and friends will be deeply missed and always remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
