Paco is survived by his wife of 67 years, Socorro Montes Vasquez, daughters Norma Vasquez Soto (Hector) and Rita Esther Vasquez, grandchildren Arthur Daniel Soto-Vasquez and Rebecca Annette Soto as well as many nieces and nephews.
Paco was born in El Paso, Texas in 1928. He was the fifth of five children, being the only male and being a paternal twin with his fourth sister. As a teenager, he developed an earnest work ethic while working hard under the supervision of his father at Consumer Ice. One of his most precious memories was that of being a proud graduate of Bowie High School. Bowie is where he met his future wife, Suky. Upon having both graduated, they married and as newlyweds, he was drafted to serve in the Korean Conflict. He proudly served in the 45th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He entered as a high school Army ROTC Cadet, and returned home after almost three years as an Army Master Sergeant.
Back home safely, he focused on raising a family and worked at the Phelps Dodge Copper Refinery from October 6, 1952 to January 16, 1984. He was a proud member of the United Steelworkers of America Union. After retiring, he and Mom enjoyed several bus or plane trips with the Bowie 49’ers to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. He was a perfect Mr. Fix-it and together with Mom, had the house in tip-top shape. Dad, we greatly miss you but we see you in everything you touched at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ramon Vasquez and Concepcion Licon Vasquez, by his son Daniel Vasquez, and his four sisters, Martha Garcia, Blanca Silva, Elia Brotherton, and Estela Waissman. Special thanks to caregivers Ruth Tinoco, Blanquita, Mary, and Sandra. We would also like to thank all of the Veteran’s Administration doctors, and nurses who tended to and cared for him. Thanks also to Dr. Tavares, Cardiologist. Great appreciation also goes out to his Physical Therapist, Amber, who treated him with a great deal of respect and dignity.
