A devoted member of St. Pius X Parish, Rey was deeply involved in parish life—singing in the choral program and supporting countless church functions and activities throughout the years.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and later retired from the United States Postal Service, where he earned the distinguished 1 Million Mile Club award for Special Delivery, recognizing his exemplary safety record and commitment to his work.
Rey was married for 63 years to Margarita Chavez Marquez, his beloved wife and partner in life. Together, they traveled the world with their children and grandchildren, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.
After retirement, Rey fully embraced the things he loved. He became an avid golfer, followed all kinds of sports with enthusiasm, and enjoyed every opportunity to be with family and friends.
He was known for his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and gift for storytelling. Rey had a way of making others feel welcome and valued, often through laughter and shared stories from his remarkable life.
A generous supporter of many charities, Rey gave freely of his time and resources, always seeking to uplift others and contribute to his community.
He leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness, service, and love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Rey is survived by his loving children David Marquez, Daniel Marquez, Monica Marquez Nelson and sisters Julie Woods, Alicia Pennell , and Clara Chavez.
Rey was preceded in death by his wife Margarita and sister Angie Shukitt.
Rey also leaves 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren to cherish his loving memory.
Visitation for Rey will be Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with a vigil service at 9:30 a.m. at Crestview Funeral Home, 1462 North Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, Texas 79936. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1050 N. Clark Drive, El Paso, Texas 79905. Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00 PM at Mt Carmel Cemetery, 401 S Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas 79907.
