Our Loving Lord collected one of his own on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Reynalda E. Stauffer, née Esqueda, age 92, passed away peacefully at home in El Paso, TX. She was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico, on May 28, 1931, and was the sixth of seven children.
Reyna was preceded in death by her parents, Cipriano Esqueda and Trinidad Esqueda; her siblings Rafael Esqueda, Jesusita (Jessie) Stephenson, Manuela (Nellie) Arciero, Ezequiel Esqueda, and Roberto Esqueda. She is survived by her sister Virginia Gilpin (Bill) and her children Roseanna Phair-Greetain, Rita E. De La Rosa, Jack A. McCoy (Diana), Norman G. Stauffer, Jr. (Carrie), and Rebecca J. Stauffer (Chris). She is lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Reyna moved to El Paso as a young girl and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy (run by the Sisters of Loretto at the Foot of the Cross) in 1948. She worked for the CYO (Catholic Youth Organization), White House Department Store, Texas Finance, and American National, and ended her career at Phelps Dodge Refining Company, retiring after 28 years.
Reyna was extremely active in the Bel Air Band Booster Club, Cristo Rey Catholic Church, All Saints Catholic Church, Project Arriba, and EPISO (El Paso Interreligious Sponsoring Organization). She was a fierce supporter of her family, her community, and her Faith. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir, and she loved reading and collecting books. She excelled in speaking up for herself, for what she believed in, and for those who needed a voice.
Thank you to the All Saints Catholic Church community, First Choice Home Health and Hospice Care, and Alianza Personal Care for providing outstanding support to Reyna and her family.
