2022 - just two days after her 59th birthday. Rhonda was the amazing wife to her soulmate and
best friend, George Eric Johansen for 25 wonderful years. She was the incredible mother to her
son Charles Eric Johansen and extended, bonus daughters, Emerald Marie Agosto-Pachecho,
Anita Alicia Ramos and Jennifer Christine Ramos-Chavez.
Rhonda was born on January 16, 1963 in El Paso, Texas to Charles B. Oxford and Barbara J.
Beeman. Her younger brother Charles Randall Oxford shared a unique connection with
Rhonda; she was both his sister and mother-figure. She graduated from Bel Air High School in
1980. Rhonda worked for Phillips Consumer and later Phillips Components for over 20 years
before retiring in 2000.
Rhonda was preceded in death by her mother Barbara J. Beeman, step-mother Yolanda Oxford,
step-brother Raymond Martinez and a variety of pets all of which Rhonda loved and adored.
In 1994 Rhonda met the love of her life, George, and they welcomed their son Charles Eric on
December 22, 1996. They married on January 17, 1997. Rhonda and George were not only
solemates, she was the ying to his yang. It was not uncommon for Rhonda and George to dress
the same and proudly parade their attire. Rhonda would relish in her husband’s silliness and
always had a camera on hand to catch his antics. There was never a dull moment in the
Johansen house. There was plenty of laughter, and even through the frustration and stress
during Rhonda’s illness, love conquered all. Rhonda and George loved each other deeply and
passionately, they never went to bed angry or upset with one another, and never let a day go by
without saying ‘I Love You’.
Rhonda was a humble and caring person whose front door was always open to lost and weary
souls - both of the human and animal kind. One of Rhonda’s most enjoyable pastimes was
playing darts in the El Paso Dart Leagues, specifically mixed couples and ladies’ leagues.
Rhonda enjoyed socializing with friends and family. She loved holidays - all holidays! Her home
was always welcoming and festive and she loved to showcase and show off her decor. She was
a die hard Cowboys fan even in a divided house who also roots for the Falcons. Rhonda’s
greatest joy was her son and enjoyed spending all the time she could with him and his girlfriend
Azia Yang. She cherished her role as bonus ‘grandma’, or Ms. Rhonda as the kids referred to
her as, to Elijah Luera, and Cye, Cybre and Isai Islas, and Dominic, D’Anise and D’Amari
Chavez.
Rhonda was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. She was a cancer warrior, battling for almost 5
years. During this time, she was incredibly strong and never wanted anyone to worry about her.
She continued to live and love life. Even at her worst of times she made an effort to show up in
one form or another - via phone calls, text or drive-bys. During those long and frequent cancer
treatments Rhonda met many fellow cancer warriors whom she became very close to. These
friends made the battle easier at times, but also harder as she witnessed those whose fights
came to an end. She and the family are grateful to all the nurses and doctors of William
Beaumont Army Medical Center along with the specialists from Texas Oncology and Hospitals
of Providence Sierra Campus who provided unwavering compassion and support during her
stays and treatments. They gave her the gift to live out so many more beautiful days than even
they could have predicted.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, if you wish to honor Rhonda’s life consider a donation to
the American Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
