Richard “Ric” Contreras, 63, died Saturday October 7, 2017 in El Paso after battling illness. He was born September 21, 1954 to Raymond and Mary Rivera-Contreras of El Paso. Ric attended Bel Air High School and joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation. Most of Ric’s military service was spent at Loring Air Force Base in Maine. After his military service, Ric decided to return to El Paso and continued his lifetime of service by joining The El Paso Police Department where he served for over 20 years earning distinctions such as “Detective of the Year”. On retirement, Ric continued his interest in criminal justice by starting a small business specializing in loss prevention and detective services. Ric was a member of The Knights of Columbus and will be remembered for his love of music, pets, autos and jokes.
Ric is survived by his sister Carmen Contreras, brother Ruben Contreras, son Niclus Contreras, daughters Riannen Contreras, Ariana Contreras, granddaughter Raelie Hope Riveron, counteless cousins and greatly respected service officers.
Contributions can be made to The Animal Rescue League of El Paso, The Juvenille Diabetes Foundation and/or The El Paso Police Foundation in honor of Richard “Ric” Contreras in Lieu of flowers.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home. Funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday October 18, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Raphael Church, 2301 Zanzibar Rd.
