Richard Dale Chatterton Sr., 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16th, 2024. He was a beloved husband, dad, papa, and peepaw. He was born on February 17th, 1945, to Sam and Helen Chatterton, he was one of five children.
Rick had a strong sense of duty and patriotism and served his country with honor as a Seabee in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His service included two deployments. He was an astute businessman who could sell you the shirt off your own back. His work ethic was envied by all who knew him. While working in Austin, Texas he met a beautiful blonde with big blue eyes and a smile that stopped him in his tracks at the famous Broken Spoke, it was then he knew he would spend the rest of his life with her. And he fought to be by her side till the very end. His tenacity was just one of his many amazing qualities.
He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of memories and love. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mary; his three children, Sharon Edmonds (Darryl), Wendi Mullins (Jeff), and Rick Chatterton, Jr. (Heather); his seven grandchildren, Jeremy Webb (Ashlee), Spencer Edmonds, (Tayler), Trent Edmonds, Shayne Chatterton, Amber Novak (Joey), Walker Chatterton, and Teeler Chatterton; and his four great-grandchildren, Addie and Harper Webb, Tytan and Mila Edmonds.
Rick loved a good debate, to talk politics, share his wisdom, and could tell you the best donut in town. In his retirement he loved to cruise in his little red wagon with Mary by his side, float in his pool on a hot summer day, visit with friends and family, and start a project or two. He loved nothing more than to be surrounded by family, listening to their stories, laughing with them, and just sharing in everyone's day to day. He was our pillar of strength and we will be lost without him.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved and the lives he touched and there were so many.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Rick’s honor to the charity of your choice. A private memorial service is being held for the family.
