Ricardo "Richard" Almeraz Najera, 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Eduardo S. Najera and Margarita Almeraz Najera, and his siblings, Eduardo Najera and Armida Reyes.
Richard lived a full and accomplished life, building a legacy through his family, his work, and his service to his community. He was the founder and owner of Loan Star Electric Co., served as a City Alderman under Mayors Ray Salazar and Don Henderson, and was founder and co owner of KINT-TV Channel 26. He also served on the boards of several local banks, the Boys Club and the local AIECA providing an apprenticeship program for prospective electricians. He took great pride in his work and in contributing to the community he called home. As proud as Richard was of his accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Richard was a man of few words, but he never needed many to let his family know how much they meant to him. His love was shown through his actions- being present, providing for his family, supporting them, and quietly standing beside them throughout their lives.
Richard also knew how to enjoy life. He loved fishing, hunting, and boating, creating many treasured memories with family and friends along the way. He was also a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, faithfully cheering them on through the wins, the losses, and everything in between. In retirement, Richard could often be found cruising in his truck with his beloved dog, Coco, by his side. Coco was his constant companion, and the bond they shared brought him great happiness.
And anyone who knew Richard knew his whistle. That unmistakable whistle could announce his arrival from what seemed like a mile away. For those who loved him, it became a familiar sound that simply meant, Dad is here. It is a sound his family will forever carry in their hearts.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Najera; his sons, Richard W. Najera (Pat), Dr. Michael P. Najera, Anthony E. Najera (Veronica), and Christopher J. Najera (Jayme); and his daughters, Katherine E. Najera-Paul (Wade) and Jacqueline L. Najera-Bell (Will).
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Liz, Nicholas, Patrick, Christian, Annalina, Caleb, and Brayden; his great-grandchildren, Neomi and Maddy; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were fortunate to know and love him.
The Najera family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Richard's caregivers, Yvonne De La Garza, Christina Rojas, and Laura Souidan, as well as Dr. Ricardo Swatts, Los Cerros Home Medical, CNA Diana, Lamina Home Care and Faith Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and loving care they provided Richard and his family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Hillcrest West, located at 5054 Doniphan Dr., El Paso, Texas 79932, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:00 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. at St.Patrick's Cathedral, located at 1118 N. Mesa St., El Paso, Texas 79902.
Richard leaves behind more than the many things he accomplished during his 89 years. He leaves behind a family who knew what it meant to have a loving father and a husband who stood faithfully beside his wife. His steady love, quiet strength, and unforgettable whistle will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
