Richard Henry Smith (Smitty) passed away peacefully October 20, 2014 at his home. He was born January 29, 1935 in Imaly City, Michigan to Myrl and Elizabeth Smith. He came to El Paso in 1953 with the Army, and in 1955 stole the heart of Margaret Barclay Smith, the love of his life. After the Army, he worked for general Dynamics, North American Aviation, Phelps Dodge, and retired from Chervon Refinery. While at North American Aviation, he worked on the Apollo Space program. One of his proudest possessions was a letter signed by all the Apollo astronauts thanking him for a job well done. Smitty could always be counted on to lend a helping hand and could fix anything. He loved fishing, a good poker game, and was the Domino chicken Leg champion of Canutillo. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Ron, Lloyd, and Dale of Michigan. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, his children, Deborah Taylor (George) of Georgia and George Smith (Sue) of Nebraska, his sisters Betty Dosh, Kate Wadsworth, Judy Watts and sister-in-law Shirley Smith of Michigan, his grandchildren Bo, Adair, and Danielle Smith and Sherri Dean (Steve), numerous nieces and nephews, many friends, and Jericho. Smitty was truly one-of-a-kind and will be missed by all who loved him.
