Robert was born on February 20, 1928 in McKeesport, PA. At the age of 2, Robert was awarded to the state of Pennsylvania in 1931 and raised in the foster care system for his entire childhood until he joined the U.S. Army in 1946. Those early life circumstances molded him into the father and husband he would later become. Providing for his children became one of his most important priorities in life. He didn’t have the love and support of a real family growing up, so he made it his life mission to create his own as an adult.
Robert was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Ofelia, on April 7, 1954 in the town of Van Horn Texas. They remained married for 66 years until Ofelia’s passing in 2020. Robert and Ofelia created a beautiful life and legacy. Together they had 10 children, 21 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
Robert was extremely intelligent and had a wide range of knowledge and skills. He worked for 26 years for the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation as an engineer. He also was a life long member of the El Paso Ham Radio Sun City Operators Club, best known as K5IE. During his time with the club he served as Treasurer, Vice President and President. This was one of his favorite hobbies and he never missed a meeting in 50 years until his final weeks. He was highly regarded and loved by his fellow Ham Operator peers.
Robert is survived by his children Yvonne Carroll, Linda Rivero, Richard Carroll (Betty), Tracy Carroll (Dean), Dennis Carroll, Deanna Carroll, Debra Carroll, Robert Carroll Jr. (Martha), Yolanda Ulloa. He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde Carroll and Tressa Marie Dietz, his 13 siblings, his wife Ofelia N. Carroll, oldest son Robert J. Carroll, Grandsons Robert J. Carroll III and Aiden J. Carroll and great granddaughter Alyssah Rosas.
