ROBERT A. HAACK, “Bob” passed away on October 25, 2016 after a four year fight for life against cancer and two weeks shy from being able to watch his beloved Chicago Cubs win the World Series. He was 70 years old. Born in Hammond, IN, he chose to escape working in the steel mills and the frozen mid-west winters and made his home in El Paso, TX. Bob spent a short time playing professional football signing with the Atlanta Falcons as a quarterback after graduating from Western New Mexico University. Bob subsequently fulfilled his dream of playing football at Soldier Field. After his football playing career was over, Bob pursued his true passion which was in line with his Indiana roots and began teaching the game of basketball. Bob coached at numerous high schools throughout the El Paso and New Mexico region, including a short stint coaching at a college in Oklahoma. Bob was eventually inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. Bob’s greatest achievement was being an amazing father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his two children, Kama H. Henderson, Robert J. Haack and wife Lucy; his prized grandchildren, Eden P. Haack, Cael R. Henderson, Adelaide P. Haack, and Teagan D. Henderson; his mother Dorothy Haack; his brother Thomas G. Haack and wife Ann, niece Jodi H. Drake; and countless other friends and relatives.
