Robert Joseph Poissant
March 19, 1946 – June 11, 2021
Robert Joseph Poissant, age 75, of El Paso, TX., passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021. He was born in the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Levittown, N.Y., when he was 5 years old. Robert started working at the age of 10 with his own paper route and then later as a golf caddy and grocery store stocker. He graduated from Island Trees High School, in 1964. He worked as a mail distributor for Trans World Airlines at John F. Kennedy International Airport, salesman for Peerless Radio Corporation, and attended New York University. Robert served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, and was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX. He served in the U.S. Army Air Defense System (USAADS) as a 24F Pulse Acquisition Radar and Battery Control Central Maintenance Technician for the HAWK Missile System. While stationed at Ft. Bliss, Robert met Elvia Fourzan, and they married on June 7, 1969. He worked as an equipment installer for Western Electric Company, while attending El Paso Community College, then earning his BBA in Accounting from UTEP. After having their children, they moved to Houston where Robert worked as an internal auditor for Dart Industries, Inc., as a corporate representative for ICI America (Corpus Christi, TX.), and the Senior Cost Accountant and Plant Controller for El Paso Polyolefins Company. While in Houston, he attended the University of Houston, Clear Lake, and earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law, in 1983. After moving back to El Paso, he worked as the Corporate General Accounting and Tax Director for Billy the Kid Inc., and as General Counsel and the Senior Financial Director for Tonka Toys/Hasbro before opening his own law practice. His law experience in General Practice of Law included Child Welfare, Business Law, Family Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, and Personal Injury Law, and as a mediator for various courts in El Paso County. He also served as a long-time board member, a Chairman of the Supervisory/Audit Committee, a Secretary of the Board of Directors, and as the Chairman of the Board Directors for One Source Federal Credit Union. Robert served the El Paso Community for 38 years as an accountant, an attorney and as a child advocate for much of his career. He was a very well-respected, hardworking individual, who was selfless and kind. He is known for his love of cars, especially his Corvettes. He enjoyed building anything and everything, and as his granddaughter once said, “Bob can fix it!” He rescued most of his pets, and gave them a loving home. His long friendships are a testament to his character and loyalty. He loved his family above all, and was the rock that gave his family strength. His absence will be felt by many. Because my husband-to-be was sitting off the coast of Viet Nam, our original wedding plans had to be re-done and I went shopping for my own wedding ring. Guess who had the go-to jeweler? Thank you, Robert.
We bought our dream car the same day we got married--a 1975 Toyota Corolla. Guess who went shopping with us and steered us away from the Ford Pinto? Thank you, Robert. And thank you, Bob and Abe who got it running again.
We went to visit Bob and Elvia on a horribly hot summer afternoon. It was garbage collection day and there was a case of cold beer sitting on one of the garbage bins. Nobody had to tell us who did that. That is ALL Bob.
Yesterday, My son and my husband were given beautiful watches that Bob once owned. They laughed at me when I told them, you got better than you deserved. They knew I wasn´t talking about the watches. We get blessed with maybe ten or twelve people in our lives, that when itś all said and done, we got better than we deserved just because that person was a part of our lives. Thanks, Bob.

Dear Elvia, It is hard to express how sad I am that your Robert is gone. I will always remember the kindness and care you and Robert showed me, Sam, Jim, and Elissa when we moved to Houston. You and Robert were there for us in so many ways and the good times spent with you have never faded.
I have always been grateful for the time we shared with Robert, Andre, April and of course you. Please know that I am praying for peace and sending my love to you and all your loved ones.

I met Bob 20+ years ago during a visit to El Paso to see my Uncle John and Aunt Shirley. Bob, being such a great friend to my uncle, caused me to also call him Uncle and I still remember the confused look on his face the first time I said, hey, Uncle Bob! So, we talked about the fact I considered him an uncle and had a good laugh.. After that, for many years, whenever I called, Uncle Bob gave me great advice for one thing or another and I'm a happier person today because of his help. He was an absolute sweetheart and I'm thankful I was given a chance to know him. Prayers of comfort go out to your family.

Robert was such an unbelievable blessing to me. He truly treated me in a Christ like way. He was one of the kindest, and most generous friends I’ve ever had. If I ever needed his help he was always there for me. It was one thing for him to help me but he even helped my friends. I am most grateful to his wife for accepting me just like I was. I always felt accepted around both of them. The Bible says that love is the greatest quality one can have... and Robert showed me that love freely. He will be sincerely missed.

Bob was one of the greatest most genuine most caring man I knew. He helped me and my family through so many things and we are very sad that he is no longer with us :( Bob would drive up in his nice cars with a big smile. It was awesome to see how happy he was when he would cruise around his toys. We will Miss You Bob!!! You will forever be in our hearts! - Saenz Family

I know if it where not for Bob we would not have our grandson today. He did not have to help but he did. Not only did he help he was influential in getting our voice heard. And if it was not for Bob things would be a lot different now. I thank you (Bob) from the bottom of my heart. And thank you from our family for keeping our family together. Always greatful!

I met Robert fifty-three years ago when we were both serving in
Robert was one of my very best friends, one could not ask for a better friend. If you had the good fortune to know him you know what I am saying. He was a very ingenious counselor .
He is gone from our sight, but never our memories. He is gone from our touch but never our hearts. Our heart is never ready and the time is never right to say good-bye.
Thank you Elvia, Andre, April and the Poissant family for sharing
Robert with us.
Sincerely , John and Shirley McGuire
