Bob was born on June 30, 1943, to Robert Wier and Elizabeth Smith in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up in Midland. He graduated from Permian High School and spent much time visiting family in Austin. He later earned a degree from the University of North Texas while pursuing his passion for aviation.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and skilled pilot who spent his life in the skies as both a private and commercial pilot in El Paso, Texas. He built a distinguished career piloting for El Paso Natural Gas Company, America West Airlines, and, upon retirement, flew privately for Paul Foster.
Bob had a gentle spirit and a deep love for aviation, music, history, and sports. When he wasn’t in the air, he could often be found listening to his favorite music or cheering on UTEP basketball and football. While flying was his greatest passion, his love for his family remained at the heart of everything he did.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy A. Wier; his daughter, Shannon McMillan, and her husband, Mark McMillan; his stepchildren, Jolene Anderson and Patrick Anderson, along with Patrick’s wife, Charlene Anderson; and his beloved grandchildren, Krysalee Anderson and Charles McMillan.
Bob’s legacy of dedication, kindness, and gentle spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. In the spring of 2025, a memorial service will be held in Austin, Texas, to honor and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at https://www.parkinson.org/ in Bob’s memory.
