Robert David Ruiz, Sr., 76, of El Paso, TX, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Known affectionately as “Bob” or “Bobby,” he was a devoted father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Robert was born on July 6, 1949, in El Paso to Frances Vara and Estevan Ruiz. He built a long and fulfilling life in his hometown, creating bonds and friendships that endured a lifetime. His passion for life and his joy in sharing what inspired him were true testaments to his generous spirit.
A proud graduate of Gadsden High School, Class of 1969, Robert soon after entered basic training with the U.S. Army in Fort Ord, California. He was later stationed in Germany, where he served as an electrician and tank mechanic. During this time, he traveled throughout Europe and attended several iconic music festivals, experiences that became treasured memories.
Upon returning to the United States, Robert met his former spouse, Rosa Maria Miranda. Together, they raised two sons, Robert David Ruiz, Jr., and Ricardo José Ruiz. As a father, he was a teacher and a loving guide, sharing his passions for fishing, sports, and music, while instilling life lessons that his sons will carry with them always.
Robert is survived by his sons, Robert David Ruiz, Jr. (Vanessa) and Ricardo Jose Ruiz (Tayler); his former spouse, Rosa Maria Miranda; sister, Patsy Leos; brother Estevan Ruiz; and his grandchildren Daniel Ivan Lopez and Marina Jade Ruiz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Estevan Ruiz and Frances Vara, and his two sisters Virginia Elizabeth White and Marie Darline Ruiz.
Pallbearers will be Robert Ruiz, Ricardo Ruiz, Daniel Lopez, Marina Ruiz, Ruben Morales, Ernesto Zapien, Martin Leos and Esteban White.
Funeral services will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Hillcrest West, 5054 Doniphan Drive. Family and friends will then gather at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, at 3:00 p.m. to honor Robert’s service in the U.S. Army.
