

Roque Luevanos, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2025. He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and friend to many.
Born on August 16, 1929, in Durango, Mexico, Roque dedicated his life to his family, faith, and work as a skilled carpenter. His craftsmanship and dedication to his trade left a lasting impact on countless homes and projects, but his greatest pride was always his family.
A proud resident of Sunland Park, NM, for 52 years, Roque was a beloved member of the community. Well into his 90’s he was an active swimmer, biker, chess player, card player gambler and Pool Player and spent his days at the Polly Harris Senior Center surrounded by his friends. He most loved to beat his Grandchildren at Chess and Loteria.
Roque was married to the love of his life, Martha Ostos Luevanos+, for 57 beautiful years until her passing in 2017. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha, and his daughter, Dora Portillo+ (José +).
He is survived by his loving children: Blanca (Gollis) Payan (Amador), Raquel Piñón (Cristóbal), Leonor Luevanos, and Jorge Luevanos (Kristen). Roque also leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Angelica Payan (Stephanie), Cristóbal Piñón (KiMario), Alexandra Piñón (Robert), Daniel Piñón, (Natalie), Amanda Payan (Mike). Jose Antonio Portillo (Itati), Andrés Portillo, Verónica Castro (Ever), Emmanuel Portillo, Erik Bishop, Keana Luevanos (Juanito), and Diego Luevanos. Additionally, he was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Roque will always be remembered for his generosity, unwavering devotion to his family, and his kind and humble spirit. His home was always open to friends and family, and he was never without a warm smile and kind words for those around him.
Pallbearers will be his loving grandchildren.
Services to Celebrate Roque’s Life:
Viewing: Wednesday, February 5th, starting at 5 PM at Hillcrest Funeral Home, with a service during the viewing.
Interment: Thursday, February 6th, at 11 AM at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Sunland Park. The funeral procession will depart Hillcrest Funeral Home at 10:30 AM.
The Luevanos family would like to thank all those who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. His legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
