Rosa Maria Murillo

Rosa María Murillo Oropeza, amada madre, abuela, bisabuela, hermana, tía, suegra, amiga y, por siempre, devota esposa y viuda de Adalberto “Gordo” Murillo, falleció en paz el 27 de mayo de 2025, a los 84 años de edad. Nació el 8 de febrero de 1941 en Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, México.

Rosa vivió una vida marcada por la fortaleza, el amor y el servicio. Fue precedida en la muerte por su querido esposo Adalberto, sus padres Pedro y Guadalupe, y sus hermanas María del Pilar y María Guadalupe. Le sobreviven sus ocho hijos, 26 nietos, 22 bisnietos, sus hermanas Teresa, Adela y su hermano Salvador, así como una gran familia extendida que continúa llevando su amor adelante.

Después de la partida de su amado Gordo, Rosa inició su camino en la educación, pero no sin antes haber servido a los demás con el trabajo de sus manos. Con orgullo y dignidad, limpió casas, cocinó para otros y trabajó en el campo para mantener a su familia, siempre arraigada en la fe, el amor y una determinación inquebrantable.

Con el tiempo, y contra todo pronóstico, se inscribió en clases comunitarias de inglés como segundo idioma (ESL) y obtuvo su título de Asociado en Desarrollo Infantil en El Paso Community College, donde también trabajó en la cafetería y la biblioteca como estudiante de trabajo y estudio.

Su pasión por la educación y por la niñez la llevó a ejercer durante 16 años como educadora de primera infancia en el programa Head Start de la Región 19 de ESC en El Paso. Tras jubilarse, Rosa continuó sirviendo a su comunidad como voluntaria del programa Abuelos Adoptivos, entregando con alegría su tiempo y energía al desarrollo y bienestar de niños y niñas. Su fuerza serena, sabiduría y presencia amorosa dejaron huella en generaciones de estudiantes y docentes.

Rosa fue una mujer de fe inquebrantable, profunda compasión y fuerza perdurable. Su vida fue un testimonio de espíritu indomable, gracia radiante y el poder sanador del amor.

Fue un alma valiente, una esposa entregada que sostuvo la memoria de su amado como una corona, y una madre que, frente al dolor, se mantuvo más firme que nunca. Viuda con ocho hijos por criar, eligió el valor en lugar de la desesperanza. Con dignidad y determinación, construyó una vida llena de significado y arraigada en la fe. Su hogar se convirtió en un santuario, un lugar de pertenencia, aprendizaje, calidez y abundancia espiritual.

Creía en el poder de la educación no solo como profesión, sino como un acto sagrado de liberación. No solo enseñaba; era su forma de ver el mundo. Ya fuera en el aula o alrededor de la mesa de la cocina, hacía que los demás se sintieran vistos, valorados y alentados. Su sabiduría no era ruidosa ni formal. Vivía en sus oraciones y en la fortaleza serena que llevaba en cada paso.

“Enseñó a sus hijos a cantar la vida, incluso en los días más difíciles. La guiaba la fe y la sostenía la alegría. Compartía cantos como oraciones, historias que sanaban y un perdón suave que abría corazones. Cuando sus hijos tropezaban, les recordaba que siempre eran vistos con amor, a través de los ojos de Dios y con la mirada de la gracia.”

Rosa también era una gran organizadora, amante de los detalles y de las celebraciones, aunque encontraba especial alegría en cambiar los planes en el último momento con una risa, como diciendo: la vida se vive mejor con asombro, no con rigidez. Incluso en sus últimos días, parecía moverse con su propio ritmo. Fiel a su espíritu hasta el final, con gracia y un toque de fortaleza inquebrantable que recordaba a todos que seguía al mando.

Fue una defensora, una educadora, una ciudadana activa y una humilde constructora de nación. A lo largo de una vida de actos valientes y constantes, Rosa ayudó a formar un mundo mejor, una comunidad más fuerte y una nación con más esperanza. Inculcó en su familia un sentido de responsabilidad no solo entre ellos, sino también hacia sus vecinos y las generaciones por venir.

Se entregó libre y plenamente, con profunda fe. Su memoria vive ahora en cada gesto amable, cada lección compartida, cada plan hecho y felizmente reinventado. Aunque su voz ahora brille entre las estrellas, su canción permanece en los corazones de quienes crió, en las vidas que tocó y en la fe que los une a todos.

In Loving Memory of Rosa Maria Murillo Oropeza

Rosa Maria Murillo Oropeza, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, friend, and for eternity the devoted wife and widow of Adalberto “Gordo” Murillo, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025 at the age of 84. She was born on February 8, 1941, in Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Rosa lived a life defined by strength, love, and service. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Adalberto, her parents Pedro and Guadalupe, and her sisters Maria del Pilar and Maria Guadalupe. She is survived by her eight children, 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, her siblings Teresa, Adela, and Salvador, as well as a large extended family who carry her love forward.

After the passing of her beloved Gordo, Rosa began her journey into education, but not before first serving others through the work of her hands. With pride and dignity, she cleaned homes, cooked for others, and labored in the fields to support her family, always rooted in faith, love, and unwavering determination.

In time and against all odds, she enrolled in community-based English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and went on to earn her Associate’s Degree in Child Development from El Paso Community College, where she also worked in the cafeteria and library as a work-study student.

Her passion for education and children led to a 16-year career as an early childhood educator with the El Paso ESC Region 19 Head Start Program. After retiring, Rosa continued to serve her community as a volunteer Foster Grandparent, joyfully giving her time and energy to the development and wellbeing of children. Her gentle strength, wisdom, and nurturing presence touched generations of students and teachers.

Rosa was a woman of unshakable faith, deep compassion, and enduring strength. Her life was a testament to unbreakable spirit, radiant grace, and the healing power of love.

She was a fearless soul, a devoted wife who held her beloved’s memory like a crown, and a mother who, in the face of heartbreak, stood taller than ever. Widowed with eight children to raise, she chose courage over despair. With dignity and determination, she built a life rich in meaning and rooted in faith. Her home became a sanctuary, a place of belonging, learning, warmth, and spiritual abundance.

She believed in the power of education not only as a profession, but as a sacred act of liberation. She didn’t just teach; it was her way of seeing the world. Whether in the classroom or around the kitchen table, she made others feel seen, valued, and encouraged. Her wisdom wasn’t loud or formal. It lived in her prayers and the quiet strength she carried in every step.

“She taught her children to sing through life, even on the hardest days. Faith guided her and joy kept her going. She shared songs like prayers, stories that healed, and a gentle forgiveness that opened hearts. When her children struggled, she reminded them they were always seen with love through God’s eyes and grace.”

Rosa was also a planner, a lover of details and celebrations, but she especially delighted in changing plans at the last moment with a laugh, as if to say: life is best lived with wonder, not rigidity. Even in her final days, it seemed she moved with her own rhythm. True to her spirit until the very end—with grace and just a touch of unbreakable strength that reminded everyone she was still in charge.

She was an advocate, an educator, a voter, and a humble nation-builder. Through a lifetime of steady, courageous acts, Rosa helped shape a better world, a stronger community, and a more hopeful nation. She instilled in her family a sense of responsibility not only to one another, but to their neighbors and to the generations yet to come.

She gave herself freely, fully, and with great faith. Her memory now lives in every gentle gesture, every lesson shared, every plan made and joyfully remade. Though her voice is now among the stars, her song remains in the hearts of those she raised, the lives she touched, and the faith that binds them all.

Visitation for Mrs. Murillo will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM with Rosary Service at 6:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer St, El Paso, Texas 79904. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 13, 2025 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2709 Alabama, El Paso, Texas 79930. Graveside Service will follow at 10:30 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 8700 Dyer St, El Paso, TX 79904.
