Sammie Nell Booth

She was born Sammie Nell Grissom on February 11, 1932, to Icie and Isom Grissom in De Leon, Texas.

She attended Texas Western College in El Paso (now UTEP) and was in the first graduating class to receive a Bachelor’s in Music Education at that institution.

She was the choir director at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, St. Luke’s Methodist Church and at Jesus Chapel East for many years. She established herself as a prominent accompanist and was a popular piano teacher.

Sammie was married for 56 years to Robert H.W. Booth who preceded her in death in 2007. They had three sons, James Robert Booth (d. 2016), Joe Rodney Booth and Jerome Roy Booth.

Sammie Nell is survived by her two sons, and four grandchildren; Jessica Lindsay, Jerod Booth, Michal Booth Schultz and Madison Booth.

Sammie’s life celebration will be on Friday, July 24, 2026 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church at 7000 Edgemere Blvd in El Paso at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Road in El Paso at 2:30 p.m.
