Soledad Payan Stewart passed away on Sunday May 24th at the age of 92 surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel Payan and Rosario Cerecerez Payan, her beloved husband, Dan C. Stewart, and her cherished daughter, Jeanne E. Stewart.
Soledad is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia Stewart and Dianne Stewart. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Carlos, “Danny” Stewart, Michael Stuart, Matthew Harvey, Alex Ochoa, Amber Ochoa, Nicholas Frausto, Ruby Frausto, and Adam Frausto along with four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride.
Throughout her life, Soledad was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her family and community. She worked as a butcher at Blount’s Meat Market and later as a cashier at La Feria Grocery in Anthony, Texas. She continued her career at the Farah jean factory in El Paso, Texas, before eventually retiring from the Canutillo Independent School District, where she touched many lives through her kindness and care.
Yet of all the roles she held, the one she treasured most was being a mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her world, and she devoted her life to loving, supporting, and caring for them. She always placed the needs of others before her own and gave selflessly to everyone around her.
Soledad’s life was marked by resilience and courage. Having overcome adversity during her childhood and many health challenges throughout her life, she remained steadfast in faith and spirit. Her strength inspired all who knew her.
Her faith in God was unwavering. A devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, she served as a catechism teacher and dedicated herself to sharing her love of God with children and families in her community. Her kindness, compassion, and deep spirituality left a lasting impression on countless lives.
She will be remembered as an amazing and strong woman whose love knew no limits.A woman whose heart was always open to others, whose generosity never wavered, and whose example of faith and perseverance will continue to guide her family for generations to come.
Funeral arrangements will be held on Wednesday, June 3, at Martin Funeral Home, located at 128 North Resler Drive, El Paso, TX 79912. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, June 4, at 12:45 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, located at 224 Lincoln Street, Anthony, NM 88021.
Interment will follow directly afterward at 2:35 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Avenue, El Paso, TX 79906.
