Stewart A. Streitenberger, 69, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at his home. He was born on September 6, 1955, in Lynwood, California, to Jerry Allen Streitenberger and Norma Jean Bunch Streitenberger.
Stewart served in the United States Army for 24 years, with 8 years in infantry and 16 years in air traffic control. During his time in service, he was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, the Army Achievement Award, two National Defense Service Medals, and two Overseas Service Ribbons.
In his years of military service, he became known for his strong leadership and his ability to take struggling military units and mold them into high-achieving teams through his unwavering dedication and care for every soldier he led. Stewart attained the highest enlisted rank and retired as a decorated veteran with the rank of Sergeant Major.
After retirement from the Army, Stewart began his second career as a social worker, attaining a bachelor’s degree in social work from UTEP and a master’s degree in social work from NMSU. Pursuing his passion to serve others—and fueled by his own struggle with PTSD—he chose to work for the Veterans Administration, specializing in the treatment of military trauma. He continued his education during this time and attained his doctorate degree in social work. After retirement from the VA, Stewart still chose to serve, working part-time from home as a Telehealth social worker, offering guidance and hope to both veterans and civilians.
Stewart was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose quiet strength, dry wit, and steadfast determination touched everyone who knew him. He will be remembered for his generosity, his hardworking nature, and the way he always put family first.
Stewart will be dearly missed by his devoted wife of 21 years, Christy; his nine loving children; and his fourteen treasured grandchildren. His life and service will be celebrated with military honors, and he will be laid to rest near his father Jerry and his mother Norma in Whittier, California.

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”
