Sue Ann De Shazo Joyner

December 17, 1938April 23, 2012

Sue Ann Joyner passed away on April 23, 2012 after a long struggle with cancer. She passed away peacefully at her home in El Paso, Texas. Sue Ann was born on December 17, 1938 in El Paso to Kenneth and Anna De Shazo and was a graduate of Austin High school. She was married in 1956 to Billy Hugh Joyner whom she remained married to for 56 years until her death. Spiritual, light-hearted, fun loving, and empathetic were words that best described Sue Ann. Her life was punctuated by her many interests which included her cherished friends, arts & crafts, floral arranging, nature, animals, and especially her music. Her home was always full of friends (new and old) and the sounds of laughter and music. Sue Ann was happiest when working on her music and playing the piano. During her lifetime, she wrote many songs – some of which were included in her screenplay entitled “Patmos: A Message to Mankind” which was a production based upon the book of Revelation from the Bible. Although she was a long-time resident of El Paso, she also lived for a time in Roswell, New Mexico and later in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She treasured the friendships that she made throughout her life and was able to make a significant contribution to the lives of the people who considered her a friend. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her keen ability to see beauty and goodness in everyone and everything around her, for her humor, her creativity, her sensitivity, and her kind and gentle spirit. Sue Ann was pre-deceased by her parents and her first son, Kenneth Dean Joyner. She is survived by her husband Bill, her sons Greg and Todd, and six grandsons. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 4:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home West. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West, 128 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912.

As Sue, Bob Dierdorf and I labored together to create and produce three productions of "Patmos:A Message to Mankind," a musical, multi-media stage production of the book of The Revelation, we shared in the joy of many miracles through the power of the Holy Spirit. Hundreds of people, representing many churches, came together in the unity of the Spirit to make Sue's dream a reality. I know she is now dancing and singing with her Savior, secure in "The Shelter of His Arms." All my love always to those who loved her and who will miss her greatly. Shirleen Becker

"Uncle" Billy, Todd, & Greg ~
I feel so lucky to have had "Aunt" Sue Ann in my life. I always wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I strive to uphold at least a few of her many qualities and most importantly her Godly ways. She, as well as each of you, will always hold a special place in my heart. Know that my thoughts and prayers are with you always. Love & Sympathy, Kris
