Susana C. Czolgosz
June 9, 1921 – May 10, 2018
Susana Calderon Czolgosz, 96, passed from this life peacefully in her sleep May 10, 2018. Susana joins the love of her life, Raymond, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Susana was born in El Paso on June 9, 1921, and spent most of her 96 years living in the warm sun of west Texas. She met her soul mate, Raymond, in 1944, and they married soon after. Together they raised two children, Sharon and Phil, while Ray worked in the hotel industry. During those years home moved from El Paso to Ft. Worth to Houston to Seattle and eventually back to El Paso. Susana and Ray celebrated 50 years of marriage together in November of 1994.
Susana was a first generation Mexican American. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she earned her high school diploma at the age of 46 in 1967 from Mt. Rainier HS in the Seattle area. Susana continued her education beyond high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1976 and master’s degree in Education in 1980, both from the University of Texas at El Paso. She taught English Language Arts for nine years in the El Paso School District.
Susana is survived by her children Sharon and Phil; her brother Chon; her three grandchildren Josue, Jonathan, and Nina; her seven great-grandchildren Jonah, Henry, Lydia, Jack, Isaac, Sully, and Hazel; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00pm with Rosary at 7pm Wednesday, May 16, at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home, 8817 Dyer St., El Paso, TX 79904. Funeral Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1315 Travis St., El Paso, TX 79903. Committal will follow in Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
