Theresa Apodaca

November 7, 1934January 16, 2013

Theresa Dávila Apodaca was born at her parents’ farm in Socorro, Texas on November 7, 1934 and passed away on January 16, 2013. She was extremely intelligent, compassionate, and beautiful, and she taught everyone she encountered what it truly means to love one another.

She was a generous person who never complained about any pain or sorrow or hardship she may have experienced. She was remarkably strong and rarely shed any tears that anyone could see. She was a pillar of faith and devotion and was there for anyone who needed help. Although she was a serious person, she had a wonderful sense of humor.

Theresa taught many students, nurtured many children, and shared her love with the whole world. She will be missed tremendously by her loving husband of 54 years, Jacob G. Apodaca; her sons Daniel (wife Julia), David, Rene (wife Luz); grandson Jacob Rene; sister Emilia Gutiérrez; and brother Aureliano Dávila, as well as many friends and family members who also loved her very much. The family wishes to thank CIMA Hospice for the outstanding care it provided.

A bright light has faded from this earth and now shines brightly in the heavens. We will forever miss you!

Mi Madre, Mi Vida

You drove my father crazy with happiness by giving him my birth. I opened my eyes and I knew love, I knew the truth. Today, when I remember where I am, I am because of you. You were my first teacher. You taught me how to live. You also taught me how to die. To die is easy, you said. There is no pain. You gasp and it is done. You open your eyes, and life is new, fresh, everlasting. Late at night when I close my eyes, I think of you, cool rain that sets my spirit free. When I see flowers bloom, I know that they are you. And when I yawn last before death, I will see light, I will see you.

The Rosary will be Friday, February 8, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church located at 519 Latta St., El Paso, Texas. The funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 9, at 9:00 a.m. at San Felipe de Jesus Church at 401 Passmore Rd., Socorro, Texas, followed by interment of the ashes at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. My condolesences to the Apodaca family. I know she will be missed by many people. Theresa was a very sweet and caring person. She was always helping others who needed help when it came to people who were not able to do much due to their health. I will miss her very much because I enjoyed our conversations when we would talk. She will rest in peace and be blessed always being there for her family and others. God bless you Mrs. Apodaca and you will dearly be missed.

During our growing up years we the Jose and Juanita Grijalva family have vivid and wonderful memories of Tere, her teaching years at Incarnate Word grade school, and the good times we had when both families visited each other. We remember Tere being a very nice, serious and beautiful woman. We are certain that she is in heaven with our other angels that went before her. We feel truly blessed to have known such a special person. Our deepest condolences to Jacob, sons, wives and grandson. Deep condolences to the Davila family at this time of grief. May God give you strength to carry on. Let us know if we can be of help during this sad time.
