Born on September 1, 1952, she attended Our Lady of the Valley grade school, Loretto Academy high school and graduated from the first graduating class of the University of Texas College of Nursing. She went on to be a charge nurse and ICU nurse at Providence Memorial Hospital where she would meet her future husband, Dr. Jesus Gomez. She also worked as an ICU nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital. While Dr. Gomez trained at MD Anderson, Terry worked as a clinic nurse at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Her career in nursing was the perfect fit for her compassionate nature. She was kind, generous, selfless and so very funny! Everyone---everyone---was better off in her presence. A family member described her as walking softly, with a profound intent of meeting your gaze that expressed her special love of you.
Her selfless and caring nature also continued with her beloved children, Andie and Lucas. She was devoted to them, and took great joy in their upbringing. She was also very devoted to her husband and supported him throughout his years in medical school, residencies and beyond.
Terry was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Suky Arroyo, and sister Sylvia Arroyo Campa.
She is survived by her devoted husband Dr. Jesus Gomez who championed her care and never gave up on trying to uncover new treatments or medications; children Andie and Lucas Gomez, family dog Blue and cats Jeremie and Remy, sister Cecilia Arroyo Berg, sister-in-law Tere Gomez whose training in Speech Pathology provided insight and loving support through the years; brother-in-law Chano Gomez, nephews Charles Berg, Christopher Campa, Eli Padilla, Chuy Gomez and Juanito Gomez, nieces Anne-Marie Hagemeier, Christina Yarnell and Maria Elena Gomez, as well as many cousins.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to Terry's niece Maria Elena Gomez for her tireless loving care she gave to her aunt during her last few weeks. They would also like to acknowledge the loving care provided by the nurses from Envision Hospice, El Paso Nurses Honor Guard, as well as her home caregivers Eva Rodriguez, Corina Chaverria, Lupe, Mari Rodriguez, Jazmin Valenzuela, and Nellie.
May her memory be a blessing, inspiring kindness, compassion, strength and comfort to all.
