

Thomas Addison Cartwright, Jr. entered this world on December 13, 1930 in Osage City Kansas nd passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 15, 2024 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Gwendolyn “Bonnie” Rose Cartwright of Benton, Arkansas, his wife Mary Lucille Cartwright of Victoria, Texas, and his grandson Jeremy Ryan Johnson of Huntsville, Alabama.
Tom graduated High School in Delevan, KS at age 16 (1946) and went on to the University of Kansas to become a CPA. He graduated with his undergraduate degree in 1951. Tom was inducted in the Marine Corps on May 5, 1952 and fought in Korea from 1952 to 1953. He was honorably discharged after obtaining the rank of Corporal. After his service in the Marine Corps, Tom returned to law school at the University of Kansas. He later transferred to the University of Houston for a second year of law school. He met and married Barbara Jean King in Topeka, Kansas in 1953 and two daughters followed. Karen Rose Cartwright Reimers of Cloudcroft, NM born in 1957 and Chris Tina Cartwright Johnson of Huntsville, AL born in 1961. Tom later married Mary Lucille Wilson in 1973. They were married for 45 years before Lucille’s passing in
2018.
After a long career as a Certified Public Accountant in Houston, Texas, he and Lucille retired to Victoria, Texas where Tom was elected and served as Victoria County’s drainage commissioner from the mid 1990s to 2016. Tom is survived by his children, Karen Rose Cartwright Reimers, Chris Tina Cartwright Johnson and husband Philip, his granddaughters Bethany Johnson van Hulst and husband Emmanuel, and Danielle Reimers. Tom was blessed with four great grandchildren, Matthew, Lucas, Abigail, and Elise van Hulst whom he loved dearly.
As a long-standing member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tom served in several capacities and enjoyed ministering to the elderly in both physical and spiritual needs. Tom enjoyed music and travel in his later years. In the year preceding his death, he made the journey back to the Rose family homestead (home of his grandparents Ernest Gustav E.G. and Sarah Frances Rose) in Waverly, Kansas. He also visited the Grand Canyon with his two daughters shortly before his passing. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a godly man, dedicated to loving the Lord, and for his kindness toward others. We will miss his quick wit, optimism, love and perseverance.
