Tom was a well-known veterinarian in El Paso who owned the Northeast Veterinary Clinic and Montana Animal Clinic. Tom’s many friends and clients knew him as a kind, intelligent and caring person who loved animals and people alike. He was a very skilled veterinarian who worked with all types of animals including fish, birds and exotics. Tom was named the Companion Animal Practitioner of the Year by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association in the year 2000. This honor singled Tom out as the best companion animal veterinarian in Texas. Tom always had a kind word and gentle manner that appealed to both people and pets. He was also generous with his time, spending over 3 years on the public health board for the City of El Paso as well as many other organizations. He was a wonderful person who will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife Joyce, son Jason (Elizabeth), grandchildren Jillian and Zachary, siblings Suzi (John) Argiro, Tricia (Tom) Luke, Debby (Steve) Sobey, Jennifer (John) Butler and Mike (Debbie) McCabe, and many nieces and nephews. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the El Paso Humane Society or a favorite animal rescue organization. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Martin Funeral Home West. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West.

Arrangements under the direction of Martin Funeral Home, El Paso, TX.

Tom was among the BEST veterinarians and people I knew when he & I were at Fort Detrick in 1979. May you rest in peace, Tom.

Tom was a friend, neighbor and one of the kindest persons I have ever met. He had a warm, dedicated, unselfish way about him that was an example to all that knew him. He did not wear religion on his sleeve, but even better, he expressed it through his contact with others. My condolences to the family, especially Joyce and Jason.

My heart was deeply saddened when I heard about Tom's passing. I first met him as a young girl and he was kind, warm-hearted, personable and charming. I will always remember him in that way. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to the entire McCabe family. May you rest in peace Tom!

Today we officially said good bye to Tom. He was more than just a boss - he was a friend, mentor and for me, a second dad. I do not like to say "good bye". I prefer to say "until we meet again", so boss until we meet again on the other side of the rainbow bridge. You will be missed but never forgotten. I will hold all that you have taught me close to my heart. I pray that you will remain with me in spirit, and help guide me in my future endeavors. May I strive to be more like you - caring, compassionate, forgiving, patient, loving, genuine, to name a few.
I pray for his family still on earth (both by blood and clinic).
