Major Moreno attended Ysleta High School; after graduation Major Moreno entered the United States Army. He served in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. Major Moreno returned home in 1946 where he attended Texas Western College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He loved the military and served for over 20 years. While in the Army he also served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also had the opportunity to serve in Alaska and Germany, where he met the love of his life, Rita, retiring out of Ft. Bliss in 1970. After his military career, Major Moreno worked for the County of El Paso, Texas, where he retired for a second time as the First Assistant to the County Auditor.
Major Moreno is survived by his wife of 59 years Rita Moreno, his daughter Isabella Moreno, his two grandsons, Phillip and Daniel Moreno-Montanelli, granddaughter Viviana Moreno-Dominguez, her husband Jorge Luis Dominguez, two great granddaughters, Sophia and Mia Dominguez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Major Moreno was a soldier, an officer and a true gentleman who served his country proudly. He will be tremendously missed!
Rosary will be at 11:00 A.M., with Holy Mass at 12:30 P.M. both will be held at St. Stephen Deacon & Martyr Church, 1700 George Dieter, El Paso, Texas 79936. Major Moreno will be laid to rest will full military honors immediately following church services at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
