Not a day goes by that I don't think of you.  You have touched so many lives- I love you MORE!!!!

It has been a year and I still look at your phone number listed on the paper in my cabinet.  I still stop myself from picking up the phone and dialing. To my Beautiful Aunt,

Although I didn’t see my wonderful Aunt much, your passing has had a tremendous impact on me.  You were an incredible woman whom I have nothing but love, respect and admiration for and heartfelt memories of times we shared.  You always saw the best in everyone, your smile and laugh lit up a room and somehow made the problems of the world dissolve.  You helped me in life more than you will ever know. 

I still remember our first trip to El Paso and immediately I was drawn to your kindness and compassion for others.  You made me feel important!!!  Although at that point you had your hands full with your own children and grandchildren- you made time for “just” me.  Now that I am a parent, I am not sure how you did it, but you did with grace and truth- there was never anything “untrue” about you!!!  That trip created an “unspoken” bond of love that we shared for the next 40 years.  

Whenever I had a challenge, I sought you out.  In 2005, I was faced with some pretty significant challenges and without hesitation I knew I had to take a trip to El Paso.  I needed some “Aunt Virgie” time.  As I had told you on numerous occasions, “you saved me.”  You would laugh and of course not take credit for anything.  You always helped, loved , listened, and nurtured  without any expectations and your attention was unconditional.    Although my life was a bit upside down, I feel so blessed to have spent that time with you and so grateful that you were able to meet my sons.  

I will never forget how we ended each telephone conversation- I would tell you that I loved you and you would say, “I love you more.” I would then say, “no, I love you more.”  And then we would giggle and say that we were true “Milhem’s” always having to get the last words in. 

I love you the “most” Aunt Virgie and know without a doubt how much you loved me and the boys.  I will look forward to seeing you again.
