Willard Arnold (Arnie) Simms died suddenly on August 14, 2024 at the age of 91. He had been a resident of Good Samaritan-White Acres Assisted Living since April. He loved old time black and white western television shows and movies, old country music with his dial set on Willie's Roadhouse, rooting for the Cleveland Indians Baseball team and The Dallas Cowboys.
Arnie was born in East Liverpool, Ohio, on July 12, 1933, graduated from East Liverpool High School then enlisted in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1957, then entered the Reserves until 1961. After arriving in El Paso, he was employed by White Sands as an electrical technician eventually completing 30 years of civil service before finally retiring.
His great love was the Masonic Order. He was a Past Master, Life Member and Endowed Member of Wallace Hughston Masonic Lodge #1393. El Maida Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters, Scottish Rite Valley of El Paso, Orient of Texas since 1977 and Woodbine Chapter #738, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a recipient of the The Golden Trowel for meritorious service to the Masonic Order and was selected for the honorary 33rd degree in Scottish Rite.
He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 30 years, Chris, his parents, William and Martha Simms, brother Bruce Risinger and sister Mary Ellen Billie. He is survived by his adopted son, John Michael Simms (Lidia) of Spring Valley, California, and a stepson James Dewberry of San Tan Valley, Arizona, James' son Clint (Desirea) and great-grandchildren Kinley and Kya, a niece, Toni Lynn Pastore of Gainsville, Ohio, Vickie (Russ) Crim of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and a nephew DanieI Risinger also of New Philadelphia, Ohio.
The family is most appreciative of the love and assistance Arnie received from his close friends, Mike, Davis, Lilli Crow and Rosemary Alsworth who was his companion and caregiver for the past 7 years. He received excellent care at Good Samaritan-White Acres Assisted Living from all the staff especially Rachel, Rose, Angie, and April.
Visitation will begin at 9:00am with services at 10:00am, Friday, September 6, 2024 at Funeraria Del Angel Restlawn, 8817 Dyer St, followed by Committal service at 11:00am at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. A reception is scheduled at Wallace Hughston Masonic Lodge # 1393, 5502 Hondo Pass, El Paso, TX after the burial ceremony.
