William Carroll Grant was born to Paul Milner and Loretta Coleman Grant on September 7, 1928, in El Paso, Texas. He graduated from Austin High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after attending Texas Western College for a year. Bill served 2 years at Maher Island Naval Base in California at the end of World War II and was honorably discharged. Returning to El Paso, he completed his bachelor’s degree of Music in August 1953. He began his 37 ½ year career with Farmer Brothers and married Kitty Worthington in 1957. Farmer Brothers sent him to San Antonio for 2 years as branch manager, and their 2 daughters Gayle and Carol were born there. Bill transferred back to El Paso where he served as branch manager until his retirement in 1994. During this time, he held many positions of leadership at First Baptist Church. He was also a faithful member of the Gideons. Bill and Celia Turner, (daughters Tammy and Shelly Turner), were married in 1989. Bill and Celia lived in El Paso until his illness necessitated a move closer to family in the DFW Metroplex. A loving Bible Study Group at First Baptist Church, Lewisville, welcomed them to their new church as well as friendly neighbors to the neighborhood. Bill embraced his new home, but he loved El Paso and First Baptist El Paso most of all. Bill was the best of the best, and dearly loved.
He is survived by Celia Grant; Gayle, Carol, Kevin, Melinda Grant; Tammy, John Carns; Shelly Turner. Grandchildren: Shayne, Nathan, Kathryn, Keirsey, and Casey. Nieces and Nephew: Kerry, Ann, and Dale.
