Our beloved mother Yolanda Isela Mercado, 60, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 after a short battle with cancer. Yolanda, or better known to friends and family as “Yolie”, was cherished and loved by everyone who had the joy of meeting her.
Yolie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on March 21, 1961 in El Paso, TX to Federico and Maria Elena Valdez. She received her high school diploma from Loretto Academy and proudly worked for the Texas Workforce Commission as a Field State Tax Auditor.
Yolie had a strong personality that would take charge of any situation, but in turn was an inspiration to many, she had an endearing sense of humor and luminous spirit.
Yolie was preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Maria Elena Valdez. She is survived by her husband Carlos Mercado, her loving children, Karla and Marco Mercado, her precious grandson, Luis Aaron Mendoza whom she held very close to her heart and treasured more than anything in the world. Her brother, Eduardo Valdez (Gabby) sister, Elizabeth Garcia (Jose) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a vigil at 7:00pm at Hillcrest Funeral Home East, 1060 N. Carolina Dr. A Funeral Mass will take place Friday, August 6, 2021 at 9:30am at San Antonio de Pauda Catholic Church, 503 Hunter Dr. with an interment immediately following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 401 South Zaragoza Rd.
