

Paso, Texas on April 28, 1929 to Romulo and Ramona Soto and called El Paso her home for much of her
life. She grew up orphaned losing her mother and father early; raised with her brother and two sisters,
Estevan, Gloria and Martha by their maternal grandmother. Zulema grew up learning life lessons
through The Great Depression, making her resilient and clever. She met and fell in love with Lorenzo
Serna Frias here in El Paso and they were married October 8, 1948. As a U.S. Air force wife she traveled
with Lorenzo across the country and abroad raising their four children; Edward, Rebecca, Lorenzo Jr. and
Laura. After they retired from the military they welcomed their fifth child, Romulo. Zulema loved to
dance and performed Flamenco and Belly dancing often; she also enjoyed painting and gardening.
Nothing brought her as much enjoyment as her time with her family, however; caring for, and visiting
with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whenever she could. Zulema is survived by her five
children, Rebecca Chavez, Laura Garcia; Edward, Lorenzo Jr. and Romulo Frias as well as her 16
grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a great, great-grandson.
Memorial services to be held Friday January 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Rosary at 6:00pm; at Martin
Funeral Home East; 1460 George Dieter Blvd. El Paso TX, 79936.
