Isabella just got a new scooter, and just like always, she figured it out right away. At one point she said it was because her daddy was pushing her. I pray you can hear her when she talks about you.

Until the day you passed, you were her everything and you knew that. I never got the chance to truly thank you for stepping up, even on your hardest days. Thank you for being there for her practices and games, and for all the ways you helped me along the way.

You had your moments, but you never failed to tell me you were proud of me when it mattered most. Your loss still weighs heavy on me, and I know it will for a long time. You were such a big part of my life for 10 years, and we were blessed with a beautiful daughter who carries so much of you in her (you always made sure to remind me of that.)

As I sit here with tears in my eyes wishing you were still here, I just hope you’ve found peace. Please keep watching over us like you always did.

12.28.2025 My little brothers Eulogy

When my mom asked me to speak today, I knew I had no escape, being the oldest and his only sibling, I was bound by duty and love. And as he would often say, 'Damaris, you always have something to say,' and indeed, I do. If anyone knew my brother, they knew he wasn't intimidated by much in this life, except for the prospect of losing our mom; he often expressed that life without her would be unbearable. He depended on her unwavering support and showed his gratitude in his own unique ways. He lived life to the fullest, and those who knew him understood that his journey wasn't without its challenges, but he faced each day with determination. His love for our mom was unconditional, limitless, and unshakeable; she was his rock, and he, her baby boy, cherished her love without bounds. I've often joked, as an older sibling, I felt left out of their special bond, but I loved teasing him about being a momma's boy or telling him that his umbelical cord was still attached to moms to which he'd always deny. Mom would say he needed extra love because he was uniquely created, and now, as a mother myself, I understand her wisdom. Growing up, Alfonso knew our mom worked tirelessly, so it was often just us, day in and day out, I knew how he liked his eggs and he knew how I liked my ramen. We'd play outside with Ace, Tasha, Mister Leo, and Tiffany, who he loved so much they took us in when we first moved to Bastrop we built a close knit relationship till this day . He was known by many, some for good reasons, others not so much. He had a passion for fishing, basketball Allen Iverson and Charles Barkley to be spesific, boots, and an unmissable style that included rocking retro Js and Luccheses. He loved Cajun food, seafood and food in general; I’ve never met anyone who could devour so much cereal in one sitting. Alfonso touched many lives, and many touched his. He admired a few, like our Tio Marcos Chavez, thank you for being a constant presence for my brother; he loved and appreciated you deeply. Alfonso's journey with stage 4 melanoma cancer began on August 2nd, 2025, with the tough revelation that it had spread to his lungs and lymph nodes. Despite the challenges, he started immunotherapy, but due to complications, including inflamed lungs and tumors, the treatment had to be adjusted. He faced new challenges with thickened blood and arterial blood clots, leading to high doses of blood thinners and other medications. Through it all, my brother suffered in silence, always saying he was doing great and improving daily. After speaking with his oncologist yesterday, we confirmed his passing was due to an acute heart attack, consistent with his diagnosis and how mom found him. His oncologist shared that the cancer was aggressive, with recent scans showing new lesions in his brain and lungs. I share this journey not just as a recount but as a testament to my brother's hope and resilience. For four months, he held onto hope, worked on mending relationships, spent precious time with his kids, and sought a deeper connection with God. He knew his time was limited, but he fought to the very end, inspiring us all with his strength. Let us remember Alfonso as a fighter, a son, a brother, and a friend who touched hearts. Let love guide us to cherish those we hold dear, mend the broken fences, and seek God with all our hearts, for in His wisdom, we find peace and salvation. His word reminds us that today is the day of salvation.

I’m going to miss the sporadic phone calls asking what book in the Bible he should read next or the random TikTok’s he would think were funny but were not lol, and his obnoxious sounds while he ate and him telling me His abs were coming in, we both knew that he was delusional because not a single ab formed, I’m going to miss the needy man child he was I’m going to miss clowning on him and reminding him that mom babied him because she knew I was smarter than him. I’m going to miss that phone call when he was having a tough time just so that I could pray for him over the phone and then get on him for the poor choices he made, I’m going to miss that little boy I watched grow up every step of the way.

Thank you Lord for the 38yrs of life you allowed him on this earth. Thank you for the mercy you showered him with day in and day out. Thank you Lord that he is no longer in pain and suffering. I won’t ever question why because I KNOW that My God makes no mistakes. We are all here on borrowed time.

I love you for ever brother of mine. 2 weeks have came and gone and its beginning to set in that you are no longer physically here. You never let us know just how much pain you were in, you made sure to show us just how hopeful you were, you never expected it to be this soon, you left so peacefully, you looked so handsome, I picked out your outfit and ironed it just how you liked it brother, you filled the room for your last goodbye here on this earth, you'd be happy to see all the faces that showed up  but you left this immense void that I know God will fill with His love and understanding. Your memory will live and I will make sure of that.
